An ex-police officer has been arrested for stealing at Sawla Zongo in the Northern Region, less than a year after he was dismissed from the service for similar crime.
Suspect, Abu Magida was arrested on Thursday, October 18, at 4: 4pm following a report by a trader accusing him of stealing hundred Cedis from her house.
Following the arrest, the suspect was seen wearing a vest with police crest and was later identified by the police, and he admitted the crime in his statement.
According to the police, Abu Magida alias Sakpawura said he went to the house of the trader to buy Indian hemp and took the money from her after using the police to threaten her of arrest.
“suspect stated on caution to police that the complainant deals in Indian hemp so he went to the house and bought GH ¢ 1.00 worth and thereafter threatened to arrest her ,that the complainant fearing the police vest he was wearing gave him the money,”, Northern Regional police spokesman, DSP Mohammed Y. Tanko said in a statement.
Police also later found the trader dealing in illegal drugs and her home was searched.
Police found 2 black polythene bags, 2 small wraps all of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 3 pairs of scissors , 2 packets of matches , cut pieces of white and brown. The complainant was also detained and exhibits retained.
The suspects were put before the magistrate court in Bole and remanded into police and prison custody to reappear on 25/10/18 and 31/10/18 respectively.
