Driver fined for five road offences

Tema, August 07, GNA - The Tema Circuit Court "A" has imposed a fine of 1.5 million cedis on a driver for causing obstruction or one year imprisonment in default.

Monson K. Asiedu who was charged with five counts of motor offences pleaded guilty to picking passengers at an authorised place, causing obstruction to other road users, failing to produce his driving licence and not possessing valid road worthy certificate.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu that, on July 14, 2004, the accused was in charge of Madza bus with registration number GT 3248 S and was driving at the Ashaiman Night Market.

She said the police found the driver picking and alighting passengers at an unauthorised place, and causing traffic jam on the road.

When the accused was arrested, he was found to be using the vehicle without fire extinguisher, a valid road worthy certificate and also had a defective windscreen.
