Driver in court for killing 10 cows

Kwaku Amofah Dwomoh, a driver, appeared before the Nsuta Circuit Court for negligently killing 10 cows valued GH¢ 7,750.00.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges including careless driving, negligence, causing harm, causing damage and driving without road worthy certificate.

The court presided over by Ellen Vivian Amoah granted him GH¢ 800.00 bail to reappear on Monday, February 8.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Simon Boavo told the court that on November 27, 2015, the accused was driving Tipper Truck vehicle with registration number AS 5083- 09 loaded with sand from Afamaso near Agona to Asante Mampong.

He said when the driver reached a section of the road just after Nimark Hotel at Agona where there was a sign post indicating cattle crossing zone at about 1600 hurs he ran into some cows crossing the road and killed 10 of them even though the herds man signaled him to stop.

The prosecutor said, a complaint was made to the police and the accused was arrested.

He said on December 10, the truck was examined by the Agona District Manager of Driver Vehicle Licensing Authority and based on his findings, the accused was charged.
