Driver jailed for stealing

The Dodowa District Court has sentenced Abdul Fatao a 24-year-old driver to 14 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a motorbike from his employer.

Fatao pleaded guilty to the offence and was convicted on his own plea and sentenced accordingly.

Prosecutinng, Police General Sergeant John Brahene told the Court that Mr Nurani Iddrisu, the complainant was the employer of the convict and owner of the motorbike with the registration number GR7074-18 valued at GH¢3,800.00.

He said the complainant is a mason whilst Fatao is a driver, who both live at Dodowa, in the Greater Accra Region.

The prosecution said On April 7 this year, the convict collected the complainant’s Haojue motor bike with the registration number GR7074-18 under the pretext of using it within the Dodowa township.

Mr Brahene said Fatao then fled with the motor bike to Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra and sold it for GH¢400.00, and went into hiding at Nima, also in Accra and then cut all communications with the complainant.

General Sergeant Brahene said on April 14, complainant had a tip-off of his whereabout and the convict was arrested and handed over to the Dodowa Police.

He said the convict led police to Ashaiman but could not trace the buyer of the bike.

After investigation, he was charged and put before the Court.
