Yaw Oduro, a 28-year-old driver has been handed a four- year jail term in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court for stealing GH? 4,300.00 belonging to his car owner.
The convict who, in addition, stole a spare tyre worth GH? 800.00, as part of his punishment, ordered to refund an amount of GH? 5,100.00 to the complainant by the Court presided over by Mr Fredrick Tetteh.
He pleaded guilty to the offence.
Police Detective Chief Inspector Birikorang Peasah, prosecuting said the complainant, Emmanuel Awuah about three months ago gave his Man Diesel articulated truck to the convict with the agreement to make sales of GH? 3,300.00 each time he returned from a trip.
The Court heard that the convict who plied Kumasi and Tema complied with the agreement until three weeks ago when his sales got short by GH? 1,000.00.
The convict then pleaded with the complainant to deduct the amount from his salary, which he agreed.
A week later, the convict returned from Tema and sent the vehicle to a mechanic for repairs whilst he went for GH? 4,300.00 - charge for some goods he carted from Tema but bolted with the money and a spare tyre of the vehicle.
Complainant made a report to the Konongo Police who through intelligence led to the arrest of the convict.
He admitted the offence in his caution statement upon his arrest and was subsequently arraigned.
