Asamankese, Sept 11, GNA - A Circuit Court in Asamankese, on Thursday remanded Nathan Ayittey, 25-year-old driver's mate, into prison custody for allegedly killing her girl friend through an abortion.
He is believed to have inserted concoction into the private part of Joana Amoah, a 20-year-old graduate of the Kukua L/A Junior High School, to terminate a four-month old pregnancy, leading to her death.
The plea of Ayittey, who was charged for manslaughter, was not taken and he would re-appear at court on September 20.
Police Chief Inspector Franklin Nartey, told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Siameh that the complainant in the case is Jonathan Adjei, uncle of the deceased, resident at Kukua near Suhum.
The prosecution said on August 24, Ayittey visited Amoah at her house and passed the night with her there.
Chief Insp Nartey said that the next day, Amoah left Kukua in the company of Ayittey under the disguise of purchasing some items but they did not return to the town.
The Prosecution said that Amoah's relatives including her uncle searched for her for four days but to no avail.
Chief Insp. Nartey told the court that on August 28, a report was made to the Police at Suhum about the trend of affairs and Ayittey was arrested.
The prosecution said during interrogation, Ayittey told the Police that Amoah was on admission at Freda Memorial Clinic at Suhum.
Chief Insp. Nartey told the court that when the Police went to the Clinic to investigate the case, Dr Nathaniel Kofi Kyei, in charge of the health facility, said that Amoah came there bleeding profusely.
The Prosecution said that a medical examination conducted on Amoah by the doctor revealed that concoction was inserted into her vagina in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy.
Chief Insp. Nartey said investigations also indicated that Ayittey told the doctor that he (Ayittey) inserted the concoction into Amoah's private part and he asked the doctor to do his best to save the situation.
The Prosecution said Amoah died on August 29 at 0630 hours while under going treatment at the Clinic, and her body has been deposited at the Suhum Government Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
