Drivers mate in court for stealing

Tema, Dec. 18, GNA -- A 23-year old driver's mate who bolted with 600,000 cedis being the daily sales of his master has been remanded into prison custody by the Tema Magistrate's court.

The accused, Kwaku Boakye pleaded guilty to stealing and would re-appear on January 21, for sentence.

Inspector Francis Bordor told the court, presided over by Mr Amedahe Sernyo that the complainant in the case, a driver, engaged the services of the accused on December 1, this year to help him work from 0600 hours to 1730 hours.

He said as soon as they got to the Ashaiman lorry park, Boakye jumped out of the car and bolted with the daily sales of 600,000 cedis. A report was made to the Police, who arrested Boakye eight days later from his hideout at Tulaku, near Ashaiman, the prosecutor added. The accused in his caution statement admitted the offence but said the money was only 400,000 cedis.
