Ex-convict jailed 11 years for stealing

Juaso (Ash), Sept. 3, GNA - Kwabena Frimpong, a 35-year old ex-convict, who managed to escape from lawful custody, is heading back to prison after being sentenced to 11 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court.

The convict, who was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by the same court in March this year for stealing, gave the Police a different name in an attempt to hide his identity upon his arrest.

He pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawful entry, stealing and deceiving a public officer.

Detective Inspector Adu Ofori prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr. S.K. Sarpong Appiah that Amoah Owusu, the complainant was a trader at Patriensa near Konongo while the convict was unemployed.

On July 9, this year at about 0400 hours the complainant was in his room when he heard an unusual noise in his provision shop next to his room.

Just as he came out of his room to verify what was happening, he saw the convict coming out of the shop with a black polythene bag filled with items and he raised an alarm.

The convict then took to his heels but with the help of neighbours, he was pursued and arrested after which he was handed over to the Konongo Police.

During interrogation the convict gave his name as Baba Alhassan but further investigations proved otherwise.
