A 40-year-old man who posed as a police commander and attempted to dupe the La Palm Hotel of an amount of GHC1, 000 was arrested by the police in Accra yesterday.
The suspect, Habib Osman, a resident of Tesano in Accra was said to have posed as a police commander at the Police Headquarters and solicited for money to cater for the families of seven police personnel who lost their lives in a robbery operation.
The Greater Accra Regional Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Patrick Timbillah, assisted by his Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu told journalists in Accra that Osman had gone for the money at the hotel and he was arrested.
He said on February 18 at about 4 p.m., police intelligence from the Regional Criminal Investigative Department were detailed to the La Palm Beach Hotel and arrested Osman for impersonation.
COP Timbillah said a search conducted on him revealed police Identity Cards (IDs) bearing the name Commander Boamah Arhin, other complementary cards bearing names of an editor, an official of the Food Drugs Authority and an amount of GHC1,000 collected from the management of the hotel.
He said Osman is currently in police custody assisting in investigations.
