Fake currency dealer remanded

Mankranso (Ash), April 5, GNA - A 25-year-old fried rice seller who took advantage of power outages and used fake Ghana currency notes to buy food and drinks has been remanded by the Mankranso magistrate court.

Kwabena Yeboah pleaded guilty and will re-appear on April 17. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Abraham Agyei-Mensah told the court that in the evening of March 28, Yeboah and two others now at large arrived at Mankranso from Adankwame near Barekese. Due to power outages at that time, the accused and his accomplices used fake 20,000 and 10,000 cedis notes to buy food and drinks from some petty traders.

When the traders detected that the currencies were fake and confronted them the two escaped and Yeboah was arrested and handed over to Mankranso police.

A search on him revealed fake 20,000 and 10,000 cedis notes totalling 480,000 cedis.
