Juaso (Ash), Dec 22, GNA –
A farmer, who posed as a Military Officer and duped three young men of an amount of GH¢2,400.00 under the pretext of getting them enlisted into the Ghana Armed Forces, has been remanded into prison custody by the Juaso Circuit Court. Nana Yaw Owusu is charged with conspiracy to commit crime, defrauding by false pretences and impersonation and pleaded guilty.
His accomplice, Alhassan Daladie, is however on the run.
Police Inspector Emmanuel Ofori told the court presided over by Justice S.K. Sarpong Appiah that the victims had completed the Kantanso Senior High School while the accused is a farmer at Asankare all in the Asante-Akim South District.
The three, Isaac Atise, Daniel Agyei and Kwame Dasa have expressed the desire to join the military upon completing school to Daladie, a class mate.
Daladie took advantage of his friends’ obsession with the military and connived with Owusu to swindle them under the guise of helping them to secure their dream jobs.
He managed to extort GH¢800.00 from each of them and as time went by with no sign that they were going to be enlisted any time soon they became suspicious.
They carried out their own investigations and discovered that Owusu, who had introduced himself to them on telephone as Colonel Anane Agyei at the Four Infantry Battalion, was after all not a soldier but a farmer at Asankare.
They made a formal report to the Police and Owusu was arrested while Daladie escaped and has since gone into hiding.
