Cape Coast, March 27, GNA- A 65- year-old farmer from Kissi in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) district, who is said to have told the police that a 14-year old class five pupil, was his girl friend, was on Monday arraigned at Cape Coast for defilement.
Joseph William Mensah, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded in prison custody and would re-appear on Tuesday, April 6. The prosecutor, Chief Inspector Augustine Amonoo told the court, presided over by Mr Mustapha Logoh, that on February 17 this year, the parents of the victim, were tipped off that Mensah had lured her into his room for sex.
He alleged that as a result, the parents went to lay ambush near his house and when he later emerged with her, the girl admitted upon questioning by her parents, that Mensah had defiled her on several occasions and a report was made to the police.
Chief inspector Amonoo also alleged that when Mensah was arrested he told the police that the victim was her girlfriend, with whom he had had sex on several occasions.
