Sunyani, Aug. 17, GNA- The Sunyani Circuit Court presided by Mr. Kofi Debrah on Tuesday remanded a 65-year-old farmer into prison custody for defiling a 15-year-old girl.
Paul Kuma Kwadwo Amankona pleaded not guilty and he is to reappear on August 31.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alex Yartey Tawiah told the court that Madam Adwoa Bour, the complainant in the case, is the wife of the accused whilst the victim is a nursing mother and granddaughter of the accused.
They all lived at Akrofour in Brong Ahafo.
He said in 2002, Madam Bour, the accused and the victim travelled to Enchi in the Western Region to cultivate cocoa farm but the complainant returned to Akrofour a few weeks later to work on her farm, leaving behind the accused and victim, who was then schooling. Amankona, who has two wives, took advantage of the absence of the wife and had sex with the girl on several occasions and warned her not to tell anyone.
DSP Tawiah said the victim became pregnant and revealed her ordeal to her uncle.
Madam Bour was informed about the matter and when the accused was invited by the Chief of Akrofour, he admitted the offence.
The complainant was also advised to report the matter to the police at Berekum who in turn transferred it to the WAJU in Sunyani. DSP Tawiah said the accused upon interrogation by the police again admitted the offence.
