Farmer and two others put before court

Sekondi, March 14, GNA - Three persons were on Monday arraigned before a Sekondi District Magistrate's Court for allegedly threatening to kill Nana Aba Essoun II, Queenmother of Diabenekrom near Sekondi. They are Patrick Eshun, a farmer, John Person, workshop supervisor and Kweku Quainoo, a mason.

All three persons pleaded not guilty to conspiring to commit crime and threat of death.

They were each granted 20 million cedis bail with one surety to re-appear on March 21 this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Andam Okyere, said four years ago some inhabitants of Diabenekrom hatched a plot to kill the queenmother and four other women.

Sergeant Okyere said at 2200 hours on January 17 Nana Essoun was asleep in her room at Diabenekrom when Kwasi Mpusu, her brother, woke her up. He told her to accompany him to a house where the accused persons were meeting.

When they got to the house, they stood behind the door of the room where the meeting was being held and listened to their discussions. The accused persons were blaming the queenmother for indiscriminate sale of lands and vowed to kill her.

Sergeant Okyere said Nana Essuon knocked at the door and when it was opened she told the accused persons that she had heard all that they said about her.

She reported the matter to the Police the following day and the accused persons were arrested and charged with the offence.
