Farmer gets 15 years for defilement

Mpraeso, March 4, GNA - A Circuit Court at Mpraeso has sentenced a 60-year-old farmer, Tei Donkoh, to 15 years' imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 12-year-old Primary Six pupil at Amoanda Praso. Donkoh pleaded guilty to the charge.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alex Gyamera Acheampong told the court that on February 25 the victim, who was staying with her grandmother, asked permission at about 1830 hours to visit a friend in a near-by house.

When she got to the house she met Donkoh who told her that her friend had travelled and as it started raining she could not leave. The accused dragged her into his room and sexually assaulted her. The prosecutor said her grandmother, after waiting a while without the return of her grand daughter, followed up to the house when the rain subsided.

She knocked at the door of the accused but he failed to respond so she forced the door open and to her dismay she saw the accused dressing up with her grand daughter standing in the room. Inspector Acheampong said the grandmother confronted the accused but he threatened to curse her if she should exposed him.

She took her grand daughter home and informed people around the area and Donkoh was arrested.
