Farmer jailed 72 months for stealing and threatening

Nsuta (Ash), Nov 09, GNA - A 35-year-old farmer, Kwasi Nyame, was last Tuesday sentenced to 72 months imprisonment in hard labour by an Nsuta circuit court for stealing and threatening.

He changed his earlier plea of not guilty to guilty and was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment on each count to run consecutively. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Solomon Etrew told the court that on May 10 the convict stole a bunch of plantain valued at 40,000 cedis from the farm of Mr Kofi Adu.

He said a report was made to the police at Jamasi and when the police went to arrest him he drew a cutlass and threatened them. The prosecution said on June 20, the convict again stole a quantity of maize valued at 20,000 cedis from the farm of Mr Afriyie Siaw and when Mr Siaw challenged him the convict threatened him with a cutlass.

Mr Siaw organised people who assisted him to arrest the convict and sent him to the police station.
