Tarkwa (W/R), June 2, GNA - Kwasi Mireku, a farmer has been remanded by a circuit court at Tarkwa presided over by Mr Ajet Nasam for defiling a 14-year-old girl in the bush.
His plea was not taken and the court ordered him to re-appear on June 6.
Giving the facts of the case, Police Inspector Florence Tawiah of the Tarkwa Police said the victim was residing with her parents at Apeasumang, a cottage near New Subri in the Western Region.
She said on May 27 this year at about 15:00 hours, the accused left his village for the victim's house to collect a trap from her father. When the accused got to the cottage, he did not meet the victim's father but rather saw the victim going to the father's oil palm plantation to harvest some palm fruits, the prosecution told the court. Inspector Tawiah said the accused followed her to the bush, cornered her behind a palm tree and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her on the bare ground after which he went into hiding. The victim reported the incident to her father and with the assistance of members of the community neighbourhood watch committee the accused was arrested and handed over to the police.
