Filling station robbers arrested

Three notorious suspected armed robbers, who have specialised in robbing filling stations within the Amasaman municipality and its environs, have been arrested by the Anti Armed Robbery Unit of the CID headquarters.

The suspects Isaac Okai 32 aka Nii Addy, Kwabena Opoku 32 and Alex Adjetey Adjei 37 were arrested from their hide-out at Abeiase near Amasaman upon a tip-off.

They are currently in the cells of the CID headquarters assisting in police investigations.

Briefing the Daily Guide, COP Prosper Agblor, the director general in charge of CID, said the suspects were arrested on April 13, 2013.

He said suspects happened to be among a group of armed robbers who terrorised residents within the Accra metropolis, attacked and robbed residents including some filling stations at Amasaman.

Somewhere in 2009, the suspects, in broad daylight, attacked Excel Filling Station around 10am and stole an amount of GH¢25,000.

They escaped after the act in an unregistered vehicle which investigations revealed belonged to suspect Kwabena Opoku.

Investigations so far had also established that Alex Adjetey Adjei was an employee of the filling station but was dismissed.

The suspects again attacked a shell filling station now Ready Oil Limited at Pobiman and made away with an amount of GH¢4,000, a mobile phone and some quantities of recharge cards.

Not satisfied, two Baukinabe drivers, who were at the filling station to buy fuel, were also robbed each an amount of GH¢2,000 and GH¢1,500 respectively.

A staff at the filling station, Janet Kanjeley, was also stabbed in her shoulder by one of the suspects when she resisted the attack.

However, one of their gang, Korshi Akator aka lion, was killed by the police in a gun battle with the police at Amasaman last year.

Police managed to arrest Alex Adjei Adjetey, Isaac Okai and Kwabena Opoku on April 13, 2013.

An identification parade will soon be organised and the suspects would be arraigned before court soon.

He, therefore, appealed to the public to assist with credible information which will lead to the arrest of the others.
