Five people remanded in prison custody for murder

The Nsawam Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded five people into prisons custody at Nsawam charged with murdering one Daniel Adotey Pappoe, a Manager of Goil Petrol Company in Accra.

The sixth person is at large.

Their pleas were not taken and would reappear in the same court on April 22, 2013.

They are Jonathan Quartey, a welder, Junior, a fitter at large, Emmanuel Kwabena Nutor, welder, Isaac Ofori, trader, Michael Appeah, trader, and Adjei Laryea all from Twerebo, a community near Adeiso. Their ages range from 18 to 21.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alex Cosmos told the court presided over by Madam Alberta Amponsah that on April 7, 2013, at about 1000 hours the accused persons and the deceased attended a funeral at Twerebo town together and later went to a drinking Bar.

Chief Inspector Cosmos said while at the bar, Jonathan Quartey intentionally smashed a bottle on the floor and when a witness in the case asked him to clear the mess, a misunderstanding ensued which resulted in a scuffle.

The prosecutor said when the deceased attempted to separate them, he was clubbed at the back of his neck and he collapsed. He was rushed to the Nsawam Government Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
