Four traders fined for selling on street

Kumasi, April 1, GNA - A Kumasi circuit court last Thursday fined four traders a total of eight million cedis for selling on the streets of Kumasi, soon after the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly's exercise to decongest the streets of traders.

The accused persons, who pleaded guilty and were to pay two million cedis each, were convicted on their own pleas. They are Baah Asumadu Sakyi, Kwame Bannor, Kwaku Nsiah and Adabre Frafra.

They were also made to sign a bond to stay away from the streets. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector W.K. Salia told the court presided over by Mr Bright Mensah that, last Wednesday, a combined team of police and the KMA task force embarked on an operation to find out whether traders were keeping off the streets after the recent exercise to rid them off the streets.

He said during the operation, they spotted the accused persons at KO Methodist and the "18" lane, all areas forbidden for trading activities, busily selling their wares.

The prosecutor said when the police questioned them after they failed to produce selling permits they were arrested and charged with the offence. April 1, 05
