Hairdresser jailed for inflicting razor wounds on rival

Kumasi, June 12, GNA- A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a 22-year-old hairdresser apprentice to 3 years imprisonment in hard labour for inflicting razor wounds on her rival. Akosua Adutwumwaa, would in-addition, pay eight million cedis to the complainant, Ernestina Osei to defray her medical bills. Failure to pay would attract an additional three-year jail term for the convict.

Police Chief Inspector Francis Kusi, prosecuting told the court presided over by Mr R.M Kogyapwah, that the complainant lives with the husband at Ejisu, while the convict lives at Nsenie, a suburb of Kumasi. He said on April 11 last year at about 23 hours, the convict who was the girlfriend of the complainants' husband, visited the man in his house at Ejisu.

Chief Inspector Kusi, said the convict met the complainant and a quarrel ensued between them. In the process the convict pulled out a razor blade from her purse and inflicted multiple wounds on the upper section of the complainants' body including the right breast. The prosecutor said the complainant bled profusely and was rushed to the Ejisu Government Hospital, but was referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where she was admitted and resuscitated from a comma by medical officers. The judge, pronouncing judgment, said the convict's behaviour demanded a punishment that would deter young girls from trying to snatch others people's husbands and causing such unlawful harm to their would be rivals. He also cautioned married men to remain faithful to their wives and desist from such acts. 12 June 07
