Maabang-Ashanti, May 31, GNA - The Headmaster of Maabang Senior Secondary-Technical School in the Ahafo-Ano North District together with two others of the school have been arrested by the police for aiding final-year students of the school in their West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Mr Emmanuel Koomson, headmaster, Mr E.K Asante, Assistant Headmaster and Mr Ansah Asiedu, a tutor of the school were arrested and placed behind bars on Tuesday after an interrogation by the police and officials of West African Examination Certificate (WAEC) in Kumasi. Briefing the Ghana News Agency in a telephone interview from Kumasi, Mr John Amidini, Ashanti Regional Branch Controller of WAEC, said on his routine inspection on the on-going WASSCE at the school on Monday, he came across Mr Asiedu, the tutor, in one of the examination halls holding a notebook and giving instructions on the blackboard at a time when integrated science paper one was being written.
He said after a confrontation to find out what was going on, Mr Asiedu said he was invited from his house to the examination hall to help the students but could not, however, mention the person who invited him to the hall.
Mr Amidini said the headmaster, who was also the supervisor of the examinations and his assistant, who was the deputy supervisor together with the tutor were invited to the WAEC office in Kumasi on Tuesday and after a thorough interrogation by the police and WAEC officials, they were handed over to the police who placed them in custody. Meanwhile, Maabang school centre for the examination had been cancelled and the 124 final-year students sent to Tepa Senior Secondary School to write the rest of their examinations.
