A – 40 - year- old- driver, Mr John Blay was remanded in police custody for another week, when he appeared before Half Assini Magistrate Court in Western Region, pending police investigations.
The accused person, who appeared before the court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Iliasu, is to re-appear on November 19.
The accused whose plea was not taken is charged with provisional charges of careless and inconsiderable driving, negligently causing harm, failing to report accident and driving without license
Prosecuting, General Police Corporal Isaac Otoo, said the complainant is Jomoro District Police command while the accused is a driver at New Kabenla Suazo near Half Assini.
He said about 0400 hours on October 24, some fish mongers from Half Assini who were attending Friday market at Aiyinasi on board a taxi with Registration number WR 1992-Y had one of their loads fell from the car boot and scattered on the road at Nuba near Tikobo Number one.
According to the prosecutor in the course of collecting their fish the accused, who was driving a taxi with registration number WR 963-Q from Ahobre and bound for Ayinasi run over them.
He said two women who sustained various degrees of injuries were rushed to Half Assini government hospital for treatment where one of them Madam Adjoa Banoah from Nakwa in Central Region died of her injuries, two days after admission.
The prosecutor said the driver failed to report the accident but went into hiding until he was arrested from his hide out three days later and after investigations charged with the offences.
