Twifo Praso, Apr 2, GNA - A Twifo Praso district magistrate court on Tuesday sentenced Yaw Boakye a hit and run driver to two years imprisonment for various motor traffic offences including careless driving, negligently causing harm, failing to report accident and driving without a valid licence.
Boakye who hail from Praso pleaded guilty to the charges and asked for mercy.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector William Yeboah told the court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay that on June 26, 2003, the accused who was travelling from Cape Coast to Twifo Praso knocked down Habib Mohammed at the District Assembly junction.
Inspector Yeboah said Boakye who failed to stop sped off and abandoned the car in front of the Praso Roman Catholic Church. Some good Samaritans went to the aid of the victim and rushed him to Praso Government Hospital where he was treated and discharged The Prosecution said the accused was later arrested in his hideout at Denkyira Gyankobo and released on Police enquiry bail but failed to report.
Upon a tip off, a warrant was sent to the authorities at the Ankaful Prisons where the accused was serving a five-month sentence on a different charge and was brought before the Praso court for trail.
