House wife convicted for committing environmental offences

Suhum, Dec. 10, GNA - The Suhum Magistrate's Court, presided over by=

Miss Kokuvie Tay, on Thursday, sentenced a house wife to a fine of GHC160=

for committing an environmental offence.

In default she would go to prison for three months in hard labour. The convict, Efua Nyarkoa, was charged on two counts of depositing human excreta, wrapped in a polythene bag at the back of her house and al= so failing to keep clean her filthy back yard. Mr Raymond Agbodo, Principal Environmental Officer, told the court that on September 4, an Environmental Health Inspector, Mr Bismark Otopah= , on his normal rounds entered the premises of Nyarkoa and detected the offence and drew her attention to the unsanitary conditions. He said Nyarkoa rather became angry and started insulting Mr Otopah. A summons was issued to her but she failed to respond so a bench warrant was issued and Nyarkoa was arrested and charged with the offence.
