A Jilted wife who decided to take revenge by setting fire to the room of the ex-lover has been sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by the Bosomtwi District Magistrate Court.

Adwoa Serwaa was additionally ordered to pay cash of GHC600.00 as compensation to the victim, Kofi Abraham, who suffered burns on his body.

She was charged with causing harm and unlawful damage to property and pleaded guilty.

Police Chief Inspector Aidoo Mends told the court, presided over by Mrs. Cynthia Blagogge, that the convict and Abraham were romantically involved but they decided to separate.

The man entered into another relationship and Serwaa driven by jealousy traced the couple to their rented place at Jachie to set fire to their room on August 17, last year at about 21:00 hours.

Abraham, detected the blaze, gathered courage and run through it to raise the alarm for help – suffering severe burns on the body in the process.

The prosecution said some people in the neighbourhood managed to put out the fire and rescued the new wife unhurt.

Serwaa managed to flee from the place and she was arrested later by the police based upon a tip-off.
