Obuasi, May 04, GNA - Four armed robbery cases were recorded in Obuasi within one week during the last quarter of this year. In all the cases the robbers used locally manufactured pistols to attack their victims that included the mother of John Mensah of the Black Stars whose supermarket at Obuasi-Wawase was burgled at gunpoint.
Mr Osei Assibey-Antwi, the Deputy Ashanti Regional Minister and acting Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive, said this in his session address to the Obuasi Municipal Assembly at Obuasi. He said all the four operations succeeded because the public remained apathetic to calls from the victims for assistance. He said the Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) had put in place measures to curb the menace including the intensification of night patrols by the security agencies.
Mr Assibey-Antwi said another issue of security concern to the assembly was the operations of illegal miners popularly referred to as "galamseyers" and that MUSEC had agreed to hold discussions with AngloGold Ashanti and the Minerals Commission to intensify efforts aimed at getting alternative livelihood for them to enable them abandon illegal mining.
