Labourer in court for possessing narcotics

Anthony Acquah, a 28-year old labourer at Agona Nkwanta on Tuesday appeared before Takoradi Circuit Court for allegedly possessing 28 wrappers of brownish substance suspected to be cocaine.

He was also found with two wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. He pleaded not guilty to possessing narcotic drug without authority and was remanded in Prison custody to re-appear on July 28.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Felix Danku told the court presided by Mr Justice Charles Nimako that about 1730 hours on July 1, the Police Drug Enforcement Unit at Sekondi had a tip-off that the accused had turned his brother’s drinking bar into a narcotic peddling centre.

He said the unit mobilised Police personnel to the area and arrested the accused and during a thoroughly search, the brownish substance and dried leaves were found on him.

Chief Inspector Danku said the accused claimed ownership of the items and mentioned one Papa Asmah as his supplier. He said the items were sealed in the presence of the accused to be forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra for analytical examination and report.
