Tema, Aug. 26, GNA – Elliasu Karimu, a 29-year-old labourer, charged for armed robbery, was on Thursday remanded into police custody for two weeks by a circuit court ‘A’ in Tema.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, would re-appear at court on September 8.
Police Chief Inspector Abraham Marteyfio told the court presided over by Justice Laurenda Owusu that on November 8, last year, at about 0430 hours, three young men, including the accused, armed with offensive weapons attacked Mercy Abraham, a trader, at her store at Ashaiman.
They made away with 430 Ghana Cedis, a mobile phone and an unspecified amount of coins.
Chief Insp. Marteyfio told the court that the robbers bolted whilst firing to scare curious people, who went to the scene.
The prosecution said on August 17, at about 0900 hours, the victim spotted Karimu at Night Market, a suburb of Ashaiman, and reported to a Police Patrol team, which apprehended the accused and handed him over to the Community 22 Police Station.
