A 24 year-old machine operator, has been sentenced to four years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for stealing a four year-old girl at Laterbiokoshie in Accra.
Nana Beyin Quarshie was convicted after he was found guilty of child stealing at the end of the trial.
Quarshie pleaded not guilty before the court presided over by Ms Sedina Agbemava.
According to Police Detective Inspector Kofi Atimbire, the complainant in the matter was the victim’s mother.
At about 1630 hours on October 31, 2012, the victim’s mother was within the vicinity when she had a phone call from one Mary Abogomah that her daughter has been stolen at a nearby spot.
Prosecution said the complainant rushed home and organised a search party to look for the girl to no avail.
Information gathered by the complainant indicated that, the victim was seen with the convict.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant went to Korle-Bu Police station and lodged a complaint and extract was prepared for her to send it to the Police at Mamprobi in Accra.
Police investigation led to the arrest of the convict, the prosecutor added.
