A former member of the Community Police Unit (CPU), has been granted a GH¢100,000.00 for possessing a sub-machine gun without authority.
The bail bond comes with two sureties, one to be justified.
Kwabena Kwarteng alias “Mataata”, has denied the offence.
He was first brought to Court about two weeks ago and was remanded to assist police investigation till June 8, the next adjourned date, when he was granted the bail.
The Court ordered him to return on June 25 for hearing to continue.
Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor, prosecuting, told the Court presided over by Madam Comfort Tasiame that the accused was caught with the Kettle Sub 2000 rifle (40mm) gun with 21 rounds of ammunition on May 26, this year, at Tafo Zongo.
This was when members of the Ashanti Regional SWAT Unit, formerly Buffalo Unit, were on their usual town patrol duties within the Tafo-Pankrono Divisional Police Command.
The device was found hidden in a black haversack hanging on his back as he rode a red unregistered Honda motorbike, when he was accosted by the police.
Two more live ammunition of the same kind, a military camouflage pair of trousers and five mobile phones, were also found in his room during a search by the police.
After investigation, he was charged and put before the Court.
