Kade, July 20, GNA - A 24-year-old palm wine tapper, Kofi Mark, was on Tuesday, remanded in police custody by the Kade District Magistrate's Court for mercilessly beating his brother's wife over an earthenware bowl.
Mark, who was arrested on a bench warrant, pleaded guilty. He would, reappear, on July 23.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, said both the complainant, Akua Serwaa and Mark lived at Okumaning, where the accused after being ejected from his room, kept some of his personal belongings with the complainant for safe keeping.
He said a week later, Mark secured a room and went to collect his belongings from the complainant, who released them to him without an earthenware bowl.
On June 30, Mark went to the complainant for the bowl and when she refused to release it and a quarrel ensued.
The prosecution said at mid-night on July 1, the complainant and her mother were asleep when Mark violently broke into their room and subjected her to severe beatings.
The mother raised the alarm but before neighbours could rush to the scene, the accused had escaped.
A report was made to the police, who issued the complainant with a medical form, to go to the hospital for treatment.
The accused was later arrested and was asked to report on July 5, but he failed to do so and a bench warrant was issued for his arrest.
On July 12, Mark was arrested from his hideout and when he was asked in court why he beat the complainant he replied that he needed the earthenware bowl to grind pepper and was angered when the woman refused to give it to him.
