Koforidua Circuit Court ‘B’ Presided over by Her Honour Mrs Janet Animah Marfoh has sentenced a 30-year old man into 7 years imprisonment for defiling a 12- year old pupil in a drinking spot at Jumapo, a suburb in the Eastern region.
The fact of the case presented in Court by Prosecutor, Chief Inspector Benard Annor is that, the convict Kwasi Benjamin, 30, is a farmer and a resident of Jumapo while the victim stays with the grandmother who operates a drinking spot in the same community.
The prosecutor narrated that, the convict a regular customer went to the drinking spot and met the victim alone.
After the convict drunk some quantity of locally brewed gin ‘Akpeteshie’ he had bought, he decided to sit on a bench for a while.
According to the Prosecutor, the convict pounced on the victim who was standing on a long table inside the drinking spot and forcibly removed her pant, gauged her by covering her mouth with his hand and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her in the absence of the grandmother.
Ultimate news’ Kojo Ansah Sasraku reported that the convict warned the victim not to inform anyone about the incident as a result, the victim failed to disclose her ordeal to her grandmother.
Chief Inspector Benard Annor told the court that, the victim was rushed to the hospital after falling sick and discharging ‘fluid’ from her vagina.
While receiving treatment at the hospital, the victim confided in a nurse about her ordeal.
Complaint was subsequently lodged at the Jumapo Police station which extract of occurrence was prepared and forwarded to the regional Office of Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) which a medical form was issued and confirmed by medical officer indicating that, the victim’s hymen was broken.
The convict was subsequently arrested and charged with offence of defilement.
The convict pleaded not guilty during the trial.
However, Prosecution evidence found the convict guilty of the offence hence the sentence.
