Man murders wife on the eve of elections

Tragedy struck the residents of Assakai, a suburb of Takoradi on the eve of election when a 27-year old farmer struck the wife with a piece of stick and strangled her.

The suspect, Kwame Agyepong, is in the custody of the Kwesimintim Police awaiting prosecution.

The Kwesimintim District Police Commander, Superintendent Ayamga Aklogo Yakubu, told the Ghana News Agency on Monday, in Takoradi.

He said the tragic incident occurred on Thursday, December 6, at about 1000 hours at Assakai, near Takoradi.

The police said Agyepong reported to the Kwesimintim Police that five men attacked him and his wife, Nana Abena Nkrumah,26, while on their way to the farm and in the process killed his wife.

Supt. Yakubu said upon interrogation, Agyepong revised the previous report and told the Police that he struck his wife with a stick several times and strangulated her when they were going to farm.

The police said the suspect later confessed that he was being controlled by some demons and those evil forces compelled him to kill the wife.

The corpse has been deposited at the Effia-Nkwanta Regional Hospital awaiting autopsy whilst investigations continue.
