A 63-year-old businessman was Saturday dawn shot dead at close range at Blonguanya near Odumase Krobo, a suburb of Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region.

The unknown assailant accosted the victim at his house around 12:30 AM before fatally shooting him in the right thigh.

The deceased who has been identified as William Oko Schall was rushed to the St. Martin de Porres Hospital at Agormanya but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Speculations gathered by GhanaWeb suggested that Oko may have been shot by one Samuel, a neighbour, over accusations of engaging in an amorous affair with his fiancee, one Monica.

Son of the deceased, Eric Oko Schall speaking in an interview with GhanaWeb's Eastern Regional Correspondent, Michael Oberteye narrated that his father, who shared a room with his 12-year-old son, was shot when he opened the door after he heard a knock.

He recounted that the assailant shot his father in the thigh at close range and bolted.

"There was a knock on his door so he came out with the son and then unfortunately, the person knocking had to hide so he went inside again and then there was a second knock on the door and so again he came out so upon coming outside then he met the perpetrator with a gun who took his life by shooting him through his right thigh," he narrated.

Eric furthered that the screams of the 12-year-old drew occupants of the house and neighbours to the scene who subsequently informed police who later arrived on the scene.

The incident, he added has left the entire household in a state of fear.

He called for justice for the deceased and the family to ensure that the perpetrator/s face the law.

Meanwhile, Assemblyman for the Agbom-East Electoral Area, Bright Tetteh Tettey-ku said he received a distress call around 1 AM concerning the incident.

According to him, the police who subsequently arrived at the location, later, conveyed the fatally wounded victim to the St Martin de Porres Hospital at Agomanya where medics confirmed his demise.

The assemblyman cited the speculations, disclosing that days ago, William Oko Schall confided in his daughter that the said Samuel had threatened him upon accusations of sleeping with Monica, (Samuel's fiancee) whom he lived with three houses away from the deceased.

"Per information reaching me on the ground, there were several attempts from the boy to warn the deceased so the issue is that he suspected that the girlfriend in question was having an affair with the deceased," the assemblyman asserted.

Williams' daughter told police that her father days before his murder confided in her that Monica had cautioned him to be careful as her fiancee suspected that the two were having an affair on his blind side.

Monica and Samuel were subsequently picked up by men from the Odumase Krobo police to assist police with investigations.

The two are currently in detention pending further investigations.

Asked if the incident had left his electorate in a state of fear, Bright Tetteh Tettey-ku answered: "People around are afraid now, it has brought a lot of fear."

Meanwhile, police have begun investigations into the matter.

Residents have also expressed apprehension over the incident.
