Mason jailed eight years for defiling 14 year-old girl

Akim Swedru, May 29, GNA - A 22 year-old mason, Musa Kilo, who impregnated a 14-year-old class six pupil of the Akim Asene Methodist Primary School and later terminated the pregnancy has been sentenced to eight years imprisonment by a circuit court at Akim Swedru.

Kilo pleaded guilty to a charge of defiling a girl below 16 years. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector John Padmore Arthur told the court that Kilo and the victim were lovers for sometime until the girl became pregnant.

On March 13, this year, he said the two lovers decided to terminate the pregnancy whereby Kilo inserted some concoction into the victim's private part in his room at Akim Asene.

Chief Inspector Arthur said after three days, the pregnancy was aborted but the victim started bleeding profusely with severe abdominal pains and was rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital. He said a doctor who examined the girl confirmed that she had caused a criminal abortion and therefore reported to the Akim Oda District branch of the Women and Juvenal Unit (WAJU) of the Police Service.

The accused who was later arrested, confessed to the crime and was charged the prosecution added.

In passing sentence, the Circuit Court Judge, Mr Kwame Bosompem Apenkwa said he would have imposed a heavier sentence of between 15 to 25 years but for the fact that the victim was a "bad girl" who went into a sexual relationship at a very early age.
