Mason remanded for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl

Akyem Swedru, July 26, GNA - An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded Abrahamanu Ampong, a 40-year-old mason into police custody for allegedly defiling a six-year-old primary one pupil. Ampong who pleaded not guilty would re-appear on August 15. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Charles N.Quaye told the court presided over by Mr Justice Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that the complainant is a trader and mother of the victim, a class one pupil of Akyem Ayirebi Presbyterian Primary School.

He said during the morning of June 27, this year while the victim was on her way to school, Ampong emerged from a nearby bush and dragged victim into his room and defiled her.

The prosecution said later in the day, mother of the victim confronted her when she appeared weak and vomiting, and the victim narrated her ordeal to her mother.

Police Inspector Quaye said a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at Akyem Oda where the complainant was issued with a police medical form to send the victim to hospital for medical examination and treatment. He said Ampong was arrested and after investigations charged with the offence. 26 July 06
