Accra, Aug. 26, GNA - A 23-year-old mechanic charged with defilement on Thursday stunned audience at a Circuit Court in Accra when he told the court that the victim he allegedly defiled was 18 years and not 15 years as stated by the Police.
Bright Ahiador, the accused, said the victim was his girlfriend and she had an identity card which indicated that she was 18 years. This was after he had pleaded guilty to defilement.
Prosecuting, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah, prayed the court to defer Ahiador's sentence because the Police was waiting the medical report.
The court obliged the prosecution's request and remanded Ahiador into Police custody to re-appear on September 9. The prosecution's case was that the victim lived with her parents at Railway Quarters in Accra while Ahiador, a mechanic, resides at Odorna.
She said on August 21, this year, at about 6:30 pm, the victim went out and did not return.
Later the victim's mother, a seamstress, heard that her daughter was at Odorna and proceeded to the place where she saw the victim sleeping in a kiosk that belong to the accused. The prosecution said when the victim was interrogated by her mother, she told her that because the accused had defiled her, she was afraid to return home. She said the complainant reported the matter to the Police who in turn issued the victim with a medical report. However the police are yet to receive the medical report. 26 Aug. 10
