The NPP leadership in the Ablekuma South constituency on Tuesday arrested an NDC youth activist who was suspected of registering people at Chorkor to make up the numbers needed to serve as evidence at the Supreme Court.
The suspect, a known NDC youth activist only identified as Adjei, was accosted in the early hours of Tuesday at a hideout where the exercise was being carried out.
He however took to his heels when the matter was referred to the Dansoman Divisional Police Command.
The 2012 NPP Parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma South, Noel Joseph Nah, who superintended the suspect’s arrest, narrated the incident to Citi News saying, “After we had the information we went to arrest Adjei and after taking him to the Chorkor police station, the NDC constituency Chairman, Paa, succeeded in directing the police to let the suspect run away.”
He accused the police of neglecting their duty and entreated them to get both the suspect and the NDC constituency Chairman arrested.
“It is not the best because if a suspect is sent to the police, he needs to be kept in cells to assist the police in their investigations; so we insist that the suspect and the accomplice Paa should be arrested.”
Mr. Noel also accused the Dansoman Police of refusing to return documents which were handed over to them as evidence gathered from the scene.
“The documents were handed to the Dansoman divisional Police Commander who has since refused to hand over the documents to us to serve as evidence in pursuing the case.”
“At least the Police should have even allowed us to make photocopies of the documents to use as evidence; nevertheless we want the whole nation to hear exactly what is happening in our constituency.”
The Dansoman Police command confirmed the incident to Citi News but declined to comment with the excuse that the matter has been referred to the Greater Accra Regional Police Command.
