NPP parliamentary candidate remanded for fraud

Abed Okunnor, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Prampram was on Thursday remanded into prison custody for allegedly defrauding a trader of ¢ 150,500.000

Okunnor charged with defrauding by false pretences pleaded not guilty before an Accra Circuit Court, presided over by Mr D.E.K Daketsey.

Okunnor is said to have collected the said money under the pretext of selling to the trader Stephen Takyi, scrap materials but failed to do so.

Detective Inspector John Nyantuame, said the complainant resides at Kumasi while the accused is a clerical officer with the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR).

Prosecution said Okunnor offered to supply Mr Takyi with the scrap so he led him to the premises of TOR where he showed him quantity of scarp and collected the money and then vanished into thin air..

A report was therefore made to the Police and Okunnor was arrested on January 21, this year but however, went into hiding after he was granted bail but luck run out on him when the police arrested him on April 22, this year.
