Nephew of Chief charged with threat of death

Sekondi, March 24 -GNA-Michael Sohey, a nephew of the caretaker Chief of Adakope near Takoradi, was on Thursday arraigned before Takoradi Circuit Court "A" for allegedly threatening to kill a complainant and four brothers from the Anana Royal Family of Apremdo.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of threat of death, was remanded in prisons custody to re-appear on April 1 his year. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Joe Hedidor, said at about 1400 hrs. on December 2 last year, Mr Kofi Mensah, the complainant and four brothers from Anana Royal Family of Apremdo went to Adakope to discuss issues on lands in the area with Nana Mankrado Klovia, the caretaker chief.

He said the chief was not at home so the complainant and the brothers took shelter under some trees outside the palace and waited for the chief.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the accused emerged from his house with a locally manufactured gun, walked straight to where the complainant and the brothers were sitting and fired at them.

He said the complainant and the brothers narrowly escaped death and while they were running away, the accused warned them to stay away from the area or face the consequences.

Chief Inspector Hedidor said the complainant and the brothers managed to escape and reported the matter to the Western Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

He said the accused was arrested and the gun taken away from him and after investigations he was charged with the offence.
