Nigerian arrested for murder

A 25-year-old Nigerian is in the grips of the police for allegedly stabbing an internet café attendant to death at Fadama near Darkuman, in Accra.

Suspect Ibrahim Yahaya Awudu aka Semallam allegedly stabbed the deceased, 25-year-old Joseph Boakye to death with a knife after a scuffle.

ACP Kwegyir Aggrey, the Accra West Divisional Police Commander, Kaneshie, said police intervention prevented the suspect from being lynched by an angry mob at Fadama.

The incident happened around 10:30pm on February 19, 2013 at Iyne Internet Café, Fadama.

Suspect Yahaya Awudu, according to information gathered, went to the café to meet a friend.

While at the café, he and his friend started making noise, thus disturbing other customers using the facility and so the attendant, Joseph Boakye, came out of his cubicle and asked them to keep it down.

The suspect however misconstrued the deceased’s statement and engaged him in a scuffle.

Some customers who were at the café browsing separated the two men and pulled suspect Yahaya out of the place.

Yahaya went home and later returned to the café with the Okapi knife to attack the victim, stabbing Boakye on the collar bone with the knife. While Boakye lay helplessly bleeding, Yahaya escaped with a friend on a motorbike.

Joseph was rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival at the facility.

With the help of some residents, Yahaya was later arrested by the police.

ACP Kwegyir Aggrey said the suspect would be sent to court while police launched investigations into the matter.

The body of Joseph Boakye will be transferred to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation.
