Suhum, April, 21, GNA - A 33-year-old wife of a pastor, Monica Dede, has been fined 250,000 cedis by a Suhum Magistrate Court. Dede, wife of a pastor of the Fear of God Church at Akorabo near Suhum was convicted on three counts of insulting behaviour, allowing her goats to roam the streets without anyone in charge of them and also failing to weed her surroundings.
She pleaded guilty with explanation but the explanation was rejected and she would go to prison for three months in default. Prosecuting, Mr Felix Tawiah, a Principal Assistant Environmental Officer, told the court, presided over by Mr M. E. Assandoh that, the accused and her husband, Mr G. K. Amoako, lived together at Akorabo. He said on December 18, last year, the Environmental Health Inspectors in charge of the Akorabo Zone, Messrs Evans Gayome and Gershon Hiamedy on their normal rounds, spotted some goats on the streets without a shepherd.
Prosecutor Tawiah said the Health Inspectors, in an attempt to catch the animals, the accused emerged from a house and claimed ownership of them and started pouring insults on the Inspectors. He said her husband also threatened to kill any Inspectors who dare to come to the house to arrest any of the animals.
Prosecutor Tawiah said a summon was therefore, issued to the couple to appear before the Suhum Magistrate Court but they refused and later a bench warrant was issued for their arrest. According to him, the Pastor ran away but they were able to arrest only the woman and charged her with the offence.
