Police arrest woman wee dealer at Bechem

Bechem (B/A), Nov. 18, GNA - The Police on Friday arrested a 48-year-old notorious 'wee' peddler at Bechem Zongo in Tano South District of Brong Ahafo.

Mama Sadik, a trader, is said to be the kingpin of a drug trafficking industry in the district.

Two men, Seidu Tahiru, 45 and Mamudu Hamidu, 35, both farmers, alleged to be members of the syndicate are also in the grips of the Police.

Mr Samuel Obeng Kyere, District Police Commander, told Ghana News Agency at Bechem that following a tip-off, a team of Policemen led by Detective Inspector Oscar Amponsah stormed the residence of Tahiru at Old Brosankro in Bechem at about 02:30 hours on Thursday. During a search, the District Police Commander said the team discovered 40 wrapped parcels containing Indian hemp, three cigarette sticks and two pairs of scissors.

Mr Kyere said when interrogated Tahiru said Hamidu supplied him with the items and led the police to the latter's house, where two polythene bags containing Indian hemp were also found. Mamudu also told the police he bought them from Mama Sadik in whose residence the police also found one and a half fertilizer bags full and 11 economy sized wrappers of the hemp were also found after a search. Meanwhile, the District Police Commander has ordered the confiscation of her store, which it was alleged she run out of the proceeds of the hemp industry.
