The Akwatia Police had arrested Amidu Mohammed, 31, a driver, for murdering a 48-year old woman trader.
The body of the trader, Grace Asomani, a hunchback, who sells boxer shots under the Achimota overpass in Accra, was found in a bush between Otwen Kwanta and Akwadum near Akwatia.
The Akwatia District Police Commander, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Samuel Kofi Odame told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday that Mohammed was arrested at Suhum on Sunday following intelligence gathered.
ASP Odame explained that on May 28th, the Akwatia Police had information that a woman had been murdered and her body dumped in the bush.
He said the Police proceeded to the spot where they recovered the body that had part of the hunch removed making the Police to suspect that she was murdered for ritual purposes.
The District Commander said Mohammed resided at Shado, a suburb of Suhum, whereas Grace was a resident at Akwagyeiman in Accra.
Mohammed whose parents reside at Akwatia and Boadua was once a taxi driver in the area and is believed to be related to the deceased.
The Police had learnt that on May 27, Mohammed told Grace that he wanted to introduce her to his parents and convinced the woman to accompany him for that purpose.
But it turned out to be a journey of no return as her body was found the next day in the bush.
ASP Odame said the Police was investigating if Mohammed, who had admitted murdering the woman in a caution statement, had accomplices in the act.
Grace had since been buried.
The Police Commander said Mohammed was to be put before the Asamankese Circuit Court on a provisional charge of murder while a duplicate docket would be sent to the Attorney General’s office for study and advice.
