The police in the Ashanti region has arrested six members of a robbery syndicate attacking residents on the Ejura Mampong highway.
The arrest follows a robbery attack on some passengers in which the robbers bolted with some unspecified amount of money and mobile phones.
The robbers were picked up when they were boarding a Kumasi bound mini-bus from Mampong. The deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander, ACP Ampofo Duku told Starr News the robbers wielding two single barrel guns blocked the Mampong Agona highway and attacked drivers and commuters who used the highway.
“At about 5:45pm, suspects Ibrahim Mamudu, Kofi Amuzu, Isaka Abubakar and Ali wielding two single barrel guns and a locally manufactured pistol blocked the Mampong Agona Highway and attacked drivers and commuters commuting on the highway, they fired several gunshots robbing them of unspecified amount of money and mobile phones.
“The suspects on the day of the arrest boarded a Kumasi bound mini-bus from Mampong and on reaching the Police barrier Police men upon suspicion stopped the vehicle and suspects sensing danger tried escaping, but luck eluded them and they were apprehended by the Police,” ACP Duku narrated.
The suspects are being processed for court.
