Police grab rapist robber

Mohammed Mahama, a 23-year-old member of a notorious group of armed robbers, has been arrested by the police in the Kpone-Katamanso District of the Greater Accra Region.

Sup Kwesi Ofori, Dodowa District Police Commander who confirmed the story to DAILY GUIDE, explained that as part of measures to ensure an incident-free festive occasion, his outfit enhanced its operations to curb criminal activities in the district.

According to him, on December 3, 2013 at about 1:30 am, some police personnel were deployed to the area to ensure sanity and subsequently received information about some robbery operation at Gbetsile.

He hinted that some occupants of a house at Gbetsile were held for several hours by Mahama and his accomplices.

They also robbed a woman and her daughter of GH¢2, 350, $251, laptops, LED television set, three mobile phones, jewelleries and other items.

The Dodowa Police Commander further mentioned that during the robbery, Mahama forcibly had sexual intercourse with the girl in another room before they fled the scene with the booty.

On the way, he left some of the booty in a nearby house about 100 metres away from where the robbery took place.

According to reports, the suspect returned to the house again and wanted to rape the girl, but the mother of the victim convinced him to exchange sex for money.

Mahama and the woman then agreed on an unspecified amount of money and whilst the cheque was being signed for him, the police had information about the operation and swiftly dispatched personnel to the house at Gbetsile where he was arrested.

He was conveyed to the Emefs Police Station where he admitted the offence in his caution statement but failed to lead the police to arrest his accomplices.

He would be arraigned before court for prosecution after investigations.
