Wa, May 31, GNA - Police at the Wa Nadowli police check point has impounded a Kia truck loaded with leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. The Kia truck with registration number GR 2372-11 began its journey from Techiman in the Brong Ahafo Region was bound for Babile in the Lawra District of the Upper West Region when it was intercepted by the police. Police Superintendent Wisdom Lavoe, Upper West Regional Crime Officer, briefing the press at Wa on Tuesday said at 11:50 pm on May 27 pm, the police on a tip-off impounded the truck as it arrived at the Wa Nadowli police check point. The Crime Officer gave the name of the driver and the driver's mate as Dongde-Ile Nginde, 30, and Clement Dille, 16, respectively. He said during interrogation, the driver said the truck was loaded wit= h 200 bags of cement but police went ahead to search the truck and found 54 sacks containing the leaves. He said upon second interrogation, the driver declined ownership explaining that they were only assigned to convey the items to Badile. Superintendent Lawoe said the substance would be sent to the police laboratory for a test while the driver and the mate would be arraigned before court soon. He said investigations were still on-going and urged the public to continue to assist the police with vital information to enable them to flus= h out criminals in the society. 3
