The Western Regional Police Command has arrested Lance Corporal Frank Amoako for allegedly shooting a driver’s mate at Kojokrom.
According to a police source, the officer was on duty at the Ketan police barrier and about 3:15 am on Friday, December 13, 2019, and the driver’s mate identified as John Essandoh was with his boss who happens to be the driver of a DAF truck with registration WR 3059:14.
Upon reaching the barrier, the driver refused to stop and sped off. Lance Corporal Frank Amoako who was on duty together with his colleagues allegedly gave the vehicle a hot chase and later spotted the car parked at Kojokrom.
The suspect reportedly moved closer to the car and spotted the mate, while the driver had bolted at the time. In the process of arresting the mate, the officer's gun accidentally went off and shot the mate in his left leg.
The situation attracted bystanders who sent the victim to a nearby health facility and later to the Korle Bu teaching hospital for proper medical attention.
A police source told Empire FM’s Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan that the driver’s mate was unconscious and is yet to give his statement.
