The police in Wenchi have shot and killed a suspected armed robber during a gunfight on the Wenchi-Wa Highway in the Bono Region.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, December 29, 2024, at around 3:40 a.m., according to a report by graphic.com.gh.

The report stated that four armed suspects opened fire on a police patrol team that had responded to a robbery incident near Awisa, a farming community in the Wenchi Municipality.

The officers returned fire, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. One of the suspected robbers was killed in the process, while the others fled into a nearby bush.

At the scene, the police recovered a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, six BB cartridges, an undisclosed amount of cash, and a student bag containing two Itel mobile phones and a power bank, believed to be stolen items.

The suspects had allegedly attacked passengers traveling in a Sprinter minibus and a Yutong bus before the arrival of the police.

The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the remaining suspects.
